The American Society of Civil Engineers created this list of seven innovative landmarks throughout the world, from the Deltaworks in the Netherlands, to the Golden Gate Bridge in the US, and the Chunnel connecting the UK and France.

1)Panama Canal
Panama Canal - several countries contributed to build an artificial waterway that cut through Panama. It is 82 km long. Negotiations started in late 1800s. Constructions began in1904 and finished in 1914. Ships had to travel around the tip of South America.
2) Channel tunnel or Chunnel
Under water tunnel connects the UK and Norther France. It travels 31 miles under water. It was finished in 1994 . The concerns dwindled due to the invent of air travel.
3) CN Tower
Until 2009 the world´s tallest tower. It stands at 553 m. The function of the tower is broadcast radio and TV signals.
4) The Empire State Building
It was built in New Yourk city, it is 380 m. It is used as commercial and office space that is rentable and top stories are the observation decks
5) The Golden Gate bridge
The longest and tallest suspension bridge in the world built in San Francisco in California. Suicide barriers were installed to catch jumpers (Nuselský most)
6) Itaipu Dam - Hydroelectric power plant
